Bed bugs can be extremely hard to eliminate and keep from reinfestation.  These tiny insects bite the bare skin of sleeping humans. When not Bed Bugfeeding they hide in many different places. Since Bedbugs are about the size of an apple seed, you can only imagine the places they can hide.

They typically hide in places such as the seams and tags along the mattress, cracks in the bed frame or even in cracks or crevices of the headboard. If heavily infested you can also find them hiding in the seams of chairs and couches, in corners where the ceiling and wall meet and under loose wallpaper or wall hangings. Although bedbugs have not been found to be attracted by uncleanliness, they can hide in clutter or piles placed next to the bed.

Bed bugs will travel anywhere up to approximately 20 feet in order to get a feeding.  They can travel about three to four feet per minute. Bed bugs will find ways to move from one room to another, or even from one building to another. They cling on to items such as clothes, luggage or furniture and as those items travel from one location to another, so does the bed bug.

These nocturnal bugs are more common in high traffic areas. Such as hotels, Apartment Complexes, and Homeless Shelters. Bed bugs even find their way onto trains, buses and cruise ships. Preventing the spread or an infestation of bed bugs is not easy, yet there are precautions

that can help reduce the chance of it happening. Such as checking your bedsheets and mattresses for reddish stains, bed bug excrement (very small dark spots), eggs or eggshells that are pale yellow in color and of course live bed bugs.

Other precautions to take are to thoroughly inspect any second-hand items before bringing them into your home. Items such as clothes, furniture, and any bedding. When traveling inspect the bedding and surrounding areas. Also, be sure to place any luggage on a desk or table. Do not set any items on the floor or next to the bed as bed bugs will latch on, hitch a ride and find a new home within your home. Schedule an appointment today.
